This collection answers a more useful question than “What is the best co-op game?”: which 2026 game fits the number of people, devices, communication style, and save arrangement your group actually has? A great two-player campaign can be useless to six friends. A crossplay badge can still leave account setup to solve. A host-owned save can turn the most reliable member of the group into part of the schedule.

The five games below have current official co-op evidence and permanent Player Guidebook pages. They are not ranked by taste. Compare the hard constraints first, then choose the play style.

Big Walk — for a known group that wants communication to be the game

Big Walk is the broadest group option here. House House documents two to twelve players across Windows, Mac, PS5, and Switch 2, with crossplay and Join Codes. It does not have public matchmaking or a complete solo mode. The host selects a two-player, three-player, or four-plus world configuration; that selection changes challenge setup rather than creating a maximum headcount.

The decisive constraint is save ownership. Progress saves automatically to the host, and that player must host again to continue the same journey. Pick the reliable organizer before starting. Players can join through platform friends or a Join Code, and a password protects a code that might be shown on stream.

Big Walk also makes proximity communication part of its puzzle structure. Voice and text both obey distance and environmental restrictions. It works best when the group is comfortable using the in-game channel rather than a permanent external call. Read the crossplay and Join Code answer and voice troubleshooting before the first session.

War in the North Legacy — for a compact action-RPG Fellowship

War in the North Legacy Edition supports solo, online co-op, and shared or split-screen co-op around its three-hero party. That makes it the only entry in this edition with explicitly listed shared-screen play. Steam also lists Remote Play Together on PC.

Do not convert “available on many systems” into “crossplay.” The checked official pages do not advertise cross-platform multiplayer. A group buying for online play should use the same platform family unless Aspyr later documents another arrangement.

The second caution is version identity. Legacy Edition is a 2026 build with revised targeting, interface, autosaving, character switching, performance work, and fixes. Advice for the original game may describe the same story but still be wrong about controls, saves, or support. Start with platforms and co-op, not a decade-old technical thread.

Halo Campaign Evolved — for a current cross-platform campaign

Halo: Campaign Evolved brings the remake campaign to Xbox Series, PS5, and PC with current crossplay support. The key planning rule is progression: Halo Support says the fireteam leader's progress controls which missions and skulls are available. If the expected mission is missing, the first check is who leads and what that account completed.

This matters when a group rotates hosts. The most advanced player being present does not necessarily expose their mission state when another member leads. Keep one campaign leader for a clean route, or change deliberately and expect a different selection.

Mixed-platform play also depends on current versions, platform online permission, account linking, and privacy settings. Halo Support maintains separate installation and account articles, so use the current system rather than assuming older Halo setup steps still apply.

Slay the Spire 2 — for deliberate turn-based coordination

Slay the Spire 2 changes the social rhythm. A team discusses cards, roles, resources, and risk instead of coordinating real-time movement. That makes it more forgiving for players who dislike voice-heavy action, but shared-run state and reconnect behavior become the practical support questions.

Before choosing it, confirm that every member owns or can access the game on a compatible current platform. Then read the site's co-op guide and reconnect answer. Patch-sensitive card or character recommendations should always name the current update.

Pizza House Simulator — for six-player task division

Pizza House Simulator supports solo play and online co-op for up to six on its current Windows release. Its co-op value comes from dividing a restaurant's work: preparation, cooking, service, cleaning, stock, and expansion can be handled by different people instead of every player pursuing the same target.

Use the co-op guide for Steam invites, room codes, and role division, and the join fix when a room is unavailable. Console demand exists, but the current PC listing is not proof of PS5 or Xbox versions, and no crossplay promise should be inferred.

How to choose in five minutes

Count confirmed participants, not everyone in a group chat. If more than six regularly play, Big Walk is the only fit in this edition. If two or three people share one display, start with War in the North Legacy. If the group spans PC, Xbox, and PlayStation and wants a conventional campaign, Halo has the clearest current crossplay support. If schedules or reaction speed make real-time play difficult, Slay the Spire 2 offers a slower decision loop. If six friends want roles and operational chaos, Pizza House Simulator is the management choice.

Then settle ownership. Big Walk depends on one host's save. Halo depends on leader progression. Other games still need the group to know who hosts the session and how reconnection works. Finally, test voice, account links, and updates before the planned start time. The best co-op choice is the one the group can actually enter and continue.
