FIRST CHECK

Have the remaining player save and quit, host the saved run again, then reinvite the disconnected player instead of continuing through a desynced reward screen.

The safest current reconnect method is to stop the run, save and quit to the menu, host that saved run again, and send a fresh invitation. A repeated Steam discussion reports this as a working temporary route after a “waiting for host” or poor-connection interruption. It is a community workaround, not a developer guarantee, so protect the save before escalating to file-level fixes.

Rebuild the session cleanly

  1. The player who still controls the run should stop making combat, reward, or map choices.
  2. Open the pause menu and use the normal save-and-quit option.
  3. Return to the main menu rather than force-closing the game.
  4. Host the existing saved run.
  5. Send a new Steam invitation to the disconnected player.
  6. Confirm that both players see the same floor, health, deck state, relics, and reward status before continuing.

If the disconnect happened on a chest or reward screen, do not assume the returning client received the same choice. Compare the visible state first. Rebuilding the lobby is preferable to advancing one client while the other waits for sync.

If reconnecting repeats the error

Have both players restart Steam, confirm each client is on the same public or beta branch, and disable mods for one controlled test. Do not switch branches in the middle of the only copy of a valued run. If the error began after a patch, back up the profile before trying the beta branch suggested in the developer's general troubleshooting post.

Connection quality messages can describe desynchronization rather than raw internet speed. Record who hosted, the floor and screen where it failed, each platform, and whether the run contained mods. Submit that context with the in-game F2 report when possible.

If progress disappears after the interruption, stop and use the save recovery guide. Do not overwrite Steam Cloud repeatedly while testing invites.

QUICK ANSWERS

Questions players ask next

Can a disconnected player rejoin a Slay the Spire 2 run?

A current community workaround is for the remaining player to save and quit, host the saved run from the menu, and reinvite the other player.

Should the host keep selecting rewards while a player is disconnected?

Avoid advancing through rewards or route decisions while the session is desynced. Save and rebuild the lobby first.
