GAME INTRODUCTION
What to know before you play
Slay the Spire 2 is a live Early Access deckbuilder, so the first question is which platform, branch, and version you are using—not which frozen tier list ranks first in search. Mega Crit launched it on March 5, 2026 with solo play, online co-op for up to four Steam friends, five characters, new cards and relics, and systems including enchantments, afflictions, Ancients, quests, and alternate acts.
Choose the current answer
- Check platforms and port status for Windows, macOS, Linux, Steam Deck, console, and mobile.
- Check the current main and beta update before applying exact balance advice.
- Use the Early Access roadmap for planned features without invented dates.
- Use co-op, reconnect help, save recovery, or PC requirements for a specific blocker.
The first-run goal is consistency, not a perfect build
Begin with the cards and relics the current run actually offers. A good early card solves an immediate weakness—reliable damage, survivability, scaling, or consistency—without requiring three future rewards to function. Taking every card increases deck size and can make the important answers harder to draw. Skipping a reward is a real choice when the offered cards do not improve the plan.
Route against current health, deck strength, and known upcoming needs. An elite can improve a run through relic rewards, but an elite path is not automatically correct when the deck cannot handle its likely pressure. A rest site, shop, or safer combat branch can preserve the run long enough for the deck's plan to become coherent.
The useful principle is to make card, path, and rest-site decisions against the current run without pretending that one build survives every patch. Confirm the current branch before following exact values.
Co-op changes the information problem
Official material confirms online co-op for up to four players, multiplayer-specific cards, and team synergies. Mega Crit's FAQ says the current system uses Steam friends and has no matchmaking. Before anyone confirms an action, name lethal damage, incoming danger, shared debuffs or setup, and which player needs a target to remain alive. Communication prevents duplicated defense and accidental removal of a target another player needed.
The co-op guide focuses on turn planning and connection expectations that remain useful across balance changes. It deliberately avoids declaring a permanent best character pair while Early Access cards are still being adjusted.
If a connected run drops, use the co-op reconnect checklist before starting over. If progression disappears after a crash or cloud conflict, stop syncing and follow the save recovery procedure before opening or overwriting more files.
Current player-review snapshot
Steam's all-language review endpoint reported 197,048 reviews: 119,774 positive and 77,274 negative on August 22, 2026, labeled Mixed. That large aggregate is a signal to investigate specific compatibility and update complaints, not permission to generalize every review into one diagnosis. Support pages keep branch, build, and operating system attached to each fix.
Treat branch and version as part of every answer
Mega Crit describes the beta branch as an optional test environment for experimental changes before they reach the main branch. Advice proven on beta may not apply to the default build, and main-branch advice can become stale after a major update. Check the branch and version before reporting a bug or copying an exact card value.
The published roadmap includes additional characters, alternate acts, more cards, events, relics and potions, compatibility work, quality-of-life improvements, and a later true ending. Workshop support and the Bestiary have since reached the main branch. Use the current update page to separate that released milestone from beta v0.111.0, and the Early Access roadmap for the longer direction.
Platforms and requirements
Early Access is officially available on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and Mega Crit says it supports Steam Deck. Console and mobile releases are planned for later rather than available as part of the current Early Access launch. Read the dated platform status before waiting for an unannounced port date. The game requires 4 GB storage and 4 GB RAM at the published minimum on all three desktop platforms, with platform-specific graphics requirements. Check system requirements for the verified table.
