The Pufferfish is a terrain fight: use the Tourist's Carrot, circle solid cover, shoot during rerouting windows, and preserve the Tail for progression.

Use the Tourist's Carrot to reach the Pufferfish fight, then kite the boss around trees or another solid obstacle instead of fighting in open ground. Fire while the boss is forced to turn or reroute, move before it reconnects, and keep the distinct Pufferfish Tail after the kill. The tail is the progression object; ordinary meat pieces do not replace it.
Get the Carrot first
The Tourist's request comes before the boss. Find an animal marked as an endangered creature and complete that hand-in to receive the Carrot used in the Pufferfish chain. If the boss trigger is not available, return to the Tourist and check the active objective before buying more weapons or searching another island.
Prepare the arena
- Choose two pieces of solid cover with enough space to circle them.
- Clear a route that does not end at the shoreline or a dense group of props.
- Carry enough ammunition for a long fight and know when the current weapon finishes its firing animation.
- In co-op, spread shooters apart instead of stacking behind the player being chased.
- Start the encounter from the outside of the route so the boss cannot immediately pin the team.
Repeat this fight loop
- Let the Pufferfish commit to the player it is chasing.
- Circle the selected cover without cutting through the middle.
- Shoot when the obstacle creates distance or forces the boss to change direction.
- Stop firing early enough to move before it closes the gap.
- Call out an aggro change in co-op; the new target becomes the runner while the previous runner moves out of the route.
- Repeat the same predictable circuit rather than changing direction on every pass.
Terrain makes the fight manageable, but physics can vary between attempts. Do not rely on the boss remaining permanently stuck. Treat every obstruction as a short firing window and keep the escape route open.
Keep the correct drop
After the kill, locate the distinct Pufferfish Tail or trophy before selling or eating other pieces. If the next objective does not advance, check the inventory for that item and return to the quest giver. Repeating the boss without the correct hand-in wastes the bait and another full fight.
