GAME INTRODUCTION

What to know before you play

Vapor World Over the Mind official Steam artwork

Vapor World: Over The Mind is a single-player, deflection-focused action platformer currently sold as Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox. It launched in a rough state, but the developer has already shipped a critical patch that improves movement, fixes a title-screen block, and says the save-reset error is resolved. Guides recorded before patch 0.5.4f10 should not be treated as current without retesting.

Use the beginner combat guide for the verified Deflect → Crack Break → Extract loop. If the game feels slow or will not pass the title screen, check the movement and title-screen fix. Players worried about progress should read the save reset and backup guide before a major update.

What the current game is

You play a boy moving through a dream world shaped by sorrow and regret. Combat centers on deflecting attacks, forcing a Crack Break, and extracting an exposed Ember. Exploration includes hiding, ambushing, climbing, breaking obstacles, moving objects, collecting records, and recovering abilities called Projections. The official pages describe a seamless world with hand-created artwork and a story delivered through lost memories and Sleeping Ones.

Early Access is not the finished story. Steam's disclosure describes the current package as the prologue plus two episodes, approximately five hours by the developer's estimate, ending around the beginning of The Reproachful Office. The planned full version adds another episode, an ending, subquests, hidden stories, enemies, and languages; no firm 1.0 date is promised. See Early Access content and roadmap for the exact boundary.

Current buying and platform facts

Steam's US endpoint showed a $13.49 promotional price against a $14.99 base price on August 22. Xbox lists the game for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox Play Anywhere, cloud saves, achievements, console keyboard and mouse, and 60 fps+ capability. Xbox Wire separately confirms Game Pass access for Cloud, Console, and PC. Subscription tiers change, so confirm the current Xbox listing before subscribing solely for this game.

Steam lists Windows only, full controller support, a gamepad recommendation, keyboard-only play, DualShock/DualSense support, adjustable difficulty, subtitles, and save-anytime support. Read platforms and Game Pass and requirements and controller support before buying.

Launch condition and player-review signal

Steam's review endpoint showed 58 reviews—20 positive and 38 negative—on August 22, labeled Mostly Negative. That is an early, volatile launch sample, but it is a real warning rather than a score to hide. Official posts acknowledge complaints about heavy movement, a title-screen progression block, save resets, and AI-generated cutscenes. Patch 0.5.4 removed the AI cutscenes and restored the developer's original in-game versions; patch 0.5.4f10 then improved movement and fixed the critical progression and save errors.

The store page still carried an AI-content disclosure when checked, while the newer developer announcement says all AI-generated cutscenes were removed. Because those sources describe different moments, this guide records the current patch claim and links both rather than silently rewriting the history. Recheck the live build and announcement archive if this issue affects your purchase decision.
