GAME INTRODUCTION
What to know before you play
Total War: WARHAMMER III is a fantasy strategy game built around two connected layers: a turn-based campaign map and real-time battles. Creative Assembly developed the Windows version and SEGA publishes it; the game released on February 16, 2022. Feral Interactive handles the macOS and Linux versions.
On the campaign map, you choose a Legendary Lord, build settlements, recruit armies, manage an economy, negotiate with other factions, and decide where to expand. Battles then put those armies under direct control in real time. Immortal Empires is the large sandbox campaign that brings the trilogy's factions and territories into one map, while the base game also includes the more focused Realm of Chaos campaign.
Who it suits
WARHAMMER III is a good fit if you want long campaigns, faction-specific mechanics, army composition, diplomacy, and large tactical battles. It asks for more system learning than a conventional action game, and a campaign can take many sessions. Players looking for a short linear story or direct character control will probably find the structure too broad.
Current update: Lords of the End Times
Lords of the End Times releases September 24, 2026. It adds four separately purchasable Legendary Lords—Nagash, Thanquol, Boris Todbringer, and the Glottkin. A free update arriving alongside it adds Neferata, reworks Vampire Counts, and changes end-game content. The official pre-release material explains ownership, campaign systems, and named units, but it does not establish launch balance or an optimal opening route.
