What to know before you play
Warframe is Digital Extremes' free-to-play, third-person action game about collecting Warframes and weapons, improving them with Mods, and clearing missions across the Origin System. It supports solo play and squads, with cross-platform play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
How progression fits together
New players begin with one Warframe plus primary, secondary, and melee weapons. Clearing mission nodes and Junctions opens more of the Star Chart, quests, resources, locations, and rewards. Blueprints and mission resources expand the Arsenal; ranking different Warframes and weapons raises Mastery Rank, which unlocks more equipment and systems. Mods are the main way to increase a loadout's power, so a highly ranked item without suitable Mods is not the same as a finished build.
Warframe suits players who enjoy fast parkour combat, collecting gear, experimenting with builds, and returning for a long-running sequence of quests and updates. The number of overlapping systems can be demanding at first. Following the Star Chart and main quests is a clearer starting path than trying to farm every available item immediately.
Current 2026 updates
Update 43.5 is live with Amir's Shockwave and the permanent Fables & Frontiers KIM adventure. Tau is announced for all platforms in 2026, but Digital Extremes has not published an exact day. Tau introduces the Fornax setting later in the year; its unreleased builds, full progression route, and final balance are not yet established.
