Find clues, then correctly connect related clues in Investigation Space to earn Talent progression resources. Optional investigations are an additional source of Dream Essence. Spend the resources at the Talent Table, which becomes available from the third Safe Room.
Frogwares names the third Safe Room as the point where the Talent Table becomes available. The support answers do not provide a clue-by-clue route, a recovery method for an incomplete connection, or a guaranteed Dream Essence total for each optional investigation.
The store says optional cases do not gate the main story and can reward supplies and upgrades. That establishes their role, but not a universal order or farming route.
Night Ore serves a different system. It recharges the Night Shade revive and should not be confused with Dream Essence; see Night Ore and Night Shade.
