GAME INTRODUCTION
What to know before you play
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is an open-world survival FPS developed and published by GSC Game World. Players explore the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, follow missions and personal leads, manage supplies, fight human and mutant threats, and enter anomalous areas in search of valuable artifacts. The game launched November 20, 2024 and is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
Core loop
The Zone is explored on foot rather than through a fixed sequence of combat arenas. A trip may involve accepting a job, choosing equipment and supplies, crossing dangerous territory, searching buildings or anomalies, surviving a firefight, and deciding what to sell, keep, or use before the next journey.
Weapons, ammunition, food, drink, medicine, armor condition, radiation, anomalies, and mutants all shape that loop. Story choices and faction relationships can change later events, while the A-Life 2.0 system is designed to keep characters and encounters active across the world beyond the player's immediate route.
What makes it different
- The Zone is both setting and system. Anomalies, artifacts, mutants, emissions, abandoned sites, and human factions create risks that do not behave like a standard military shooter campaign.
- Survival pressure changes exploration. Carry weight, supplies, weapon condition, and the value of recovered equipment affect how far a trip can safely continue.
- Choices lead to different outcomes. The non-linear story asks players to decide whom to trust and which interests to support.
- Immersive-sim freedom matters. Combat, stealth, exploration, equipment, and route choice can solve the same situation in different ways.
Who it fits
STALKER 2 suits players who enjoy atmospheric exploration, tense firefights, resource pressure, environmental storytelling, and making choices without a simple good-or-bad label. It is less suitable for players looking for a fast linear shooter, constant objective markers, a low-friction power fantasy, or co-op; the current official FAQ does not give multiplayer an exact release date.
Current Cost of Hope and Update 2.0 snapshot
Cost of Hope released August 20, 2026 alongside the free Update 2.0. The paid expansion adds a separate 20-plus-hour story, two regions, weapons, and mutants. Update 2.0 changes the base game for all owners, so expansion access and the free update are different entitlements.

The key buying boundary
Ultimate Edition and Season Pass owners receive Cost of Hope. Standard and Deluxe owners need the expansion or a qualifying upgrade. The free Update 2.0 does not grant the paid story. Conversely, buying the expansion is not required to receive the engine, visual, binocular, difficulty, and other base update work.
