FIRST CHECK

A controlled clean-start procedure for separating 2.0 game faults from old mod conflicts.

GSC recommends removing STALKER 2 mods before the first Update 2.0 launch. Test the clean game first, then restore only mods whose authors explicitly support the current build.

Clean start for Update 2.0

GSC's official removal steps depend on how the mod was installed:

  • Steam Workshop: unsubscribe from every STALKER 2 mod in the Workshop.
  • mod.io browser: unsubscribe in the in-game browser or the My Library page, then delete C:\Users\Public\mod.io\5761 and C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\mod.io\5761.
  • Custom PC mods: remove the files from Stalker2/Content/Paks/~mods.
  • Xbox mods: start without mods, then reinstall only after the mod has been updated for 2.0.

After that official clean-start requirement, use this conservative isolation sequence:

  1. Back up manual saves outside the active cloud-sync folder and note which mods were installed.
  2. Verify the base-game files through Steam, Epic, or the Xbox app.
  3. Launch Update 2.0 without mods and reproduce the same save or symptom.
  4. Reinstall only mods whose authors explicitly support Update 2.0, one at a time, retesting after each addition.

The backup, file verification, and one-at-a-time restoration are troubleshooting precautions, not steps published by GSC. If the issue returns after one mod, leave that mod disabled. If it remains in a clean installation, send the save, logs, platform, build, and reproduction steps to GSC support.

Save caution

A base save is officially compatible with 2.0, but third-party scripts and assets can still change what is stored or loaded. Keep the backup outside the active save-sync path until the setup is stable. Cost of Hope saves also require the expansion to remain installed after DLC progress, which is a separate entitlement rule.

Should I remove mods before launching Update 2.0?

Yes. GSC recommends removing mods initially because older files may be incompatible.
