GAME INTRODUCTION

What to know before you play

Rainbow Six Siege is a 5v5 tactical shooter developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. Each round pits Attackers against Defenders around an objective: Defenders reinforce and reshape the site, while Attackers scout, breach, and use specialist gadgets to open a route. It launched December 1, 2015 and remains a live service on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Core loop

Before the firefight, Defenders place reinforcements, traps, and utility while Attackers use drones to identify the site and defensive setup. Once action begins, both teams trade information, clear gadgets, open walls or floors, and protect or contest the objective. Destruction means a room can be attacked through doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and floors rather than along one fixed lane.

Operators define each player's tools. A loadout combines weapons with a unique gadget built for breaching, denial, surveillance, protection, disruption, or support. The round-based structure rewards planning, map knowledge, sound cues, and coordinated utility use; reckless movement can remove a player from the rest of the round.

What makes it different

  • Asymmetric attack and defense: the two sides have different preparation jobs, gadgets, and ways to control the objective.
  • Destructible environments: teams can create sightlines and entrances or reinforce surfaces to deny them.
  • Specialist Operators: team composition changes the information, protection, breach, and denial tools available in a round.
  • High information value: cameras, drones, sound, pings, and teammate communication can decide a fight before anyone shoots.

Who it fits

Siege suits players who enjoy deliberate tactical PvP, learning maps and gadgets, communicating with a team, and improving through repeated rounds. It is less suitable for players who want constant respawns, forgiving run-and-gun combat, a primarily solo campaign, or a competitive game with little reliance on map knowledge.

Current season snapshot

Operation Split Fire launches September 1, 2026. Its main additions are the Defender Noor, the Legend Division solo queue, Villa basement changes, a limited 3v3 playlist, Wasteland Circuit, and a new set of Operator and weapon adjustments.

What is confirmed before launch

Ubisoft has published enough detail to answer product and rules questions now. Noor has five Horus Lance projectiles. Legend Division is solo queue with rank, reputation, account-security, and PC platform-security requirements. Villa's Living Room/Library site moves to the basement, while the garage becomes an interior space. The limited 3v3 playlist uses shorter preparation and Operator attrition.

Split Fire had not launched when these details were checked, so live win rates, a strongest Noor loadout, and a best Villa setup were not yet established. Those conclusions should wait for the released build and current match data.
