Marvel Rivals Overview — Modes, Platforms, and Season 9.5

Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play, third-person 6v6 hero shooter from NetEase Games. Teams choose Marvel heroes and villains, contest map objectives, combine selected characters through Team-Up skills, and use or break parts of the battlefield during a match. The current Season 9.5 answers are organized below by hero, reward, balance, and event.

What the game asks you to do

Marvel Rivals is an online team PvP game, not a solo campaign. Its main objective formats include Domination, Convoy, and Convergence. Domination centers on controlling an area. Convoy and Convergence use attacking and defending sides around a moving or staged objective. The exact maps and seasonal arcade modes can change, but the core loop is stable: pick a hero, work around an objective, change heroes when the matchup calls for it, and combine abilities with the rest of the six-player team.

The roster is divided by combat role, and each hero has a distinct movement, damage, defense, or support kit. Team-Up skills add another layer: particular hero combinations can unlock or enhance an ability. Destructible map elements can also remove cover or open a new line of attack. Those systems explain why a hero can feel strong in one team and ineffective in another; an official ability value alone does not establish a universal tier ranking.

NetEase Games develops and publishes Marvel Rivals. The game released on December 5, 2024, and remains free to play. Steam lists online PvP, online co-op, and cross-platform multiplayer among its features.

Where Marvel Rivals is available

The current official download page lists these platform routes:

• Windows PC: Steam, Epic Games Store, or NetEase's Loading Bay launcher.
• PlayStation: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation 4.
• Xbox: Xbox Series X|S.

Those are platform families, not shared ownership. The official release FAQ says players use the same server environment and can play across platforms, but account data does not support cross-progression between different platforms. Buying or unlocking something on one platform should not be treated as proof that it will follow the account elsewhere.

The official download page does not currently list Nintendo Switch, iOS, or Android.

Is Marvel Rivals a good fit for you?

Marvel Rivals fits players who want short objective matches, hero switching, role coordination, and frequent seasonal changes. It does not provide a single-player Marvel campaign, and account progression does not move freely between different platforms.

Current season snapshot

Season 9.5 began on August 7, 2026. Its headline addition is The Hood, a Vanguard whose official kit uses Demonic Energy, defensive tools, transformations, and team-up interactions with Scarlet Witch and Moon Knight. The same update added the Creed of Akabba event, a pick-your-own store bundle format, new lore, Twitch Drops, balance changes, and installation-size reductions across supported platforms.

Version 20260827 later added the Endgame Encore store event and another set of fixes without replacing Season 9.5. Event and store dates expire, so use the dated pages below instead of relying on an old summary.

What official stats cannot answer

The hero database gives health, cooldowns, damage, energy, and Team-Up effects. It does not identify a universal best build, easiest counter, strongest composition, or competitive tier because those results change with rank, map, teammates, balance patches, and player execution.
