REVIEWS AT A GLANCE

What the ratings and reviewers actually tell you

Player ratings and editorial reviews measure different things. We keep every result attached to its source, then show where the evidence agrees—and where a buyer should hesitate.

MULTI-SOURCE VERDICT · CHECKED 2026-09-13

The film atmosphere and asymmetric matches can be excellent with friends, but launch jank, balance, online stability, and a short solo offering make the current build a conditional buy.

WHAT HOLDS UP

The license shapes the experience

Reviewers consistently found that the film's spaces, sound, and killer-survivor tension create more than a cosmetic franchise wrapper.

Kotaku · Gaming.net · Bloody Disgusting

Playing both sides creates the best moments

The asymmetric roles and a known friend group produce the most convincing reason to keep playing.

WHAT COULD STOP YOU

Launch roughness changes when to buy

Balance, bugs, and online execution are serious enough that patch state matters to the purchase decision.

Kotaku · Main Wave Gaming · Bloody Disgusting

The solo offering is limited

The single-player story is not substantial enough to justify the game for buyers avoiding online play.

Gaming.net · Main Wave Gaming · Bloody Disgusting

Best fitHalloween fans with a regular multiplayer group who value atmosphere more than competitive polish.

Think twice ifYou mainly want a substantial solo campaign or expect a fully settled competitive online game.

What Patch 1.0.2 changes for players

Symptom or ruleCurrent official status
Crashes or unstable interactionsThe notes list crash, stability, and interaction fixes across all platforms
Purist, Close Quarters, No Friend Left Behind, Natural Observer, or Stalker does not trackPatch 1.0.2 names tracking fixes for these achievements and trophies
Prestige blocks matchmaking or fails to populatePrestige Challenges were reenabled, and the active-challenge matchmaking blocker was fixed; the developer separately noted that some objectives remain unclear
Balance advice predates September 11The patch reduced Grab Escape Item spawns and fixed named perk and trait behavior, so launch-week advice may be obsolete

These notes establish what the developer changed, not that every similar symptom is resolved or that an old action will be credited retroactively.

The developer targets another update early in the following week and a quality-of-life update in early October. Those are planning windows, not released patch dates. Proposed stagger, melee, Grab/Struggle, Special Target, and scoring adjustments must not be used as current balance rules.

Which version should you buy now?

For a new digital buyer, Standard is the complete lower-cost entry to both the Michael story and online 1v4 play. Deluxe adds the named cosmetic packs and extra playable-character content listed on the edition page; its four-day early-access benefit has expired, so it should not influence a purchase made after September 8. The separately sold Digital Deluxe Upgrade is the relevant comparison for an existing Standard owner—buying the full Deluxe edition again is not the upgrade path described by the publisher.

If a disc matters, wait for the October 6 physical release rather than assuming the September digital launch put a retail copy on shelves. The $149.99 Collector's Edition is a physical merchandise purchase, not a cheaper route to additional gameplay. Before buying any edition for multiplayer, confirm that your group is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC; the official launch material does not list PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch versions.
