The progression loop gives farming a combat purpose
Reviews consistently connect preparation, equipment, food, exploration, and combat instead of treating the farm as a separate checklist.

REVIEWS AT A GLANCE
Player ratings and editorial reviews measure different things. We keep every result attached to its source, then show where the evidence agrees—and where a buyer should hesitate.
A confident farming action RPG with satisfying build progression and a memorable dark turn, but lighter social depth and uneven handheld behavior.

GAME INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Elderfield is a single-player Windows farming action RPG released September 10, 2026. Farming, food, relationships, equipment, magic, rituals, and real-time dungeon combat feed the same progression loop. The bright pixel-art town is not a promise of a purely cozy game: current official and review evidence consistently places danger, occult discoveries, and horror beside the farm routine.
Choose it if you want a farm to support an action-RPG build. Your daily planning matters because food, money, tools, gifts, weapons, and ritual skills affect what you can attempt outside town. The game is a less certain fit if you want social simulation to be the deepest system, dislike combat pressure, or expect its colorful presentation to remain gentle.
The official Steam listing names Chris Cote as developer and Kwalee as publisher. It currently lists Windows, single-player, full controller support, Steam Cloud, and accessibility features. No current console version is established by the checked official sources.
| Part of the day | What it changes | Why it matters later |
|---|---|---|
| Farm and gather | Food, materials, money, and gifts | Funds tools and supports longer exploration |
| Visit town | Relationships, shops, clues, and task hand-ins | Opens social and progression dependencies |
| Prepare equipment | Weapons, healing, inventory, and utility | Determines how safely you can push a new area |
| Explore and fight | Materials, discoveries, bosses, and rituals | Feeds stronger builds and new routes |
| Save and close safely | Protects the current run and Cloud state | Matters before transfer or recovery work |
This is why a one-line “farming RPG” answer is incomplete. The value comes from how those systems connect—and the friction comes from the same dependencies.
The topic deliberately does not publish a romance-count page, a Stone Tower completion guide, or a Fish Door answer. Current sources disagree on relationship counts, and the latter routes do not yet have evidence strong enough for a complete instruction page.
Steam's English-language aggregate showed 860 positive and 68 negative recommendations across 928 reviews—92.7% positive—when checked September 16, 2026. That is a changing PC population, not a Player Guidebook score. It does not prove that every controller layout works, that every Deck install is smooth, or that a specific social system will satisfy you.
For the actual trade-offs, use the review roundup, which keeps each outlet's platform and method separate.
