GAME INTRODUCTION

What to know before you play

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter official launch artwork

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a direct story sequel released in North America on September 17, 2026 for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows PC. Play the first chapter before starting it. The remake adds Quick Battles and Brave Rush alongside turn-based Crafts, Arts, S-Crafts, and Orbment building, but it still rewards careful quest timing and party preparation.

The short buying answer

Buy it if you want the continuation of Estelle and Joshua's story and a long, party-focused JRPG with modernized field combat. Do not treat it as a standalone entry: current reviews agree that the first chapter supplies essential emotional and plot context.

The base game costs $59.99 on PS5, Switch, and Steam; the native Switch 2 edition costs $64.99. A $4.99 Switch 2 Upgrade Pack moves the Switch version to the enhanced Switch 2 presentation. The $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition combines the base game and $24.99 Season Pass, but the official product page does not list a native Switch 2 Digital Deluxe package.

What the remake changes—and what it does not

Quick Battles let you clear routine enemies in the field, while command battles preserve party turns, Crafts, Arts, S-Crafts, and Orbment decisions. Brave Rush connects field pressure with a party follow-up. The faster flow reduces repetition; it does not remove boss preparation, status management, equipment choices, or optional quest deadlines.

The story remains the reason to start here. The remake does not turn the second chapter into an independent adventure, and buying a more expensive edition does not add a different campaign.

Current review direction

Game Informer scored the PS5 version 9.5/10, WorthPlaying scored PS5 8.5/10, and ZTGD scored the PC version 9.5/10. Their methods and hardware differ, so Player Guidebook does not average them or publish a site score. Use the review roundup for the shared strengths and the platform-specific cautions.
