The world is about four times one State of Decay 2 map, communities can run up to three bases, and survivor death still has lasting consequences.
State of Decay 3 uses one fully open map described as roughly four times the size of a single State of Decay 2 map. The announced community can expand into as many as three settlements, and those bases can be changed by members sharing the same world.
Announced system map
| System | What Undead Labs has described |
|---|---|
| World | Fully open after joining; about four times one State of Decay 2 map |
| Settlements | Up to three bases that can be built and expanded |
| Survivors | Recruited individuals form a connected community |
| Enclaves | NPC groups have their own goals and views of survival |
| Crafting | Weapons and survival equipment can be built and maintained |
| Permadeath | Survivor death remains permanent and affects relationships and morale |
The new emphasis is not simply “a bigger map.” Settlements, survivors, enclaves, and shared-world changes form a network. Losing someone is meant to affect the people around them, while different groups can disagree about how the apocalypse should be handled.
No released build exists for a best-base ranking, skill build, resource route, or crafting tier list. Those would be strategy claims; this page records the announced system boundaries only.
