Hearth and Hamlet official Steam artwork

Hearth and Hamlet blueprints are unlocked through Library progression and research; they are not ordinary materials to farm around the settlement. Advance the trade and main objectives until the Library task appears, perform the requested Library upgrade, and research the blueprint tier. Current release-build guidance then directs players to the Shop to commission additional copies.

Blueprint route in order

  1. Continue the current trade and story objectives instead of searching the map for a random blueprint drop.
  2. Reach the objective that introduces or upgrades the Library.
  3. Open the Library research options and complete the available blueprint research.
  4. Check the required blueprint color or tier on the blocked building.
  5. Use the Shop to commission another copy after that tier has been unlocked.
  6. If the requested color is not available, return to Library and story progression rather than repeatedly ordering the earlier tier.

This sequence separates unlocking a blueprint class from obtaining another usable copy. Research opens the capability; the Shop supplies further copies. Treating both actions as the same step is why a player can know that blueprints exist but still fail to find the one required by a later building.

When the Shop does not show the blueprint you need

First compare the building requirement with the tier currently researched. If the colors or tier markers differ, progress the Library objective and its research chain. Do not assume that an earlier blueprint can substitute for a later color.

Also check whether the Shop commission has a visible queue or completion state before ordering again. The available screenshot-based guide supports commissioning through the Shop, but public sources checked for this page do not provide a stable full-release cost and timer table. Those numbers are deliberately omitted until a current build and a second source agree.

Why the Library is the key

The official Steam description says research permanently unlocks technologies, buildings, policies, and magic. It does not publish every blueprint step, but it supports the Library/research role described by current release-build guides. A separate full-game wiki indexes building, research, and quest data for the 1.0 release and is useful for checking names; this page still avoids copying an unverified “best” order or exact costs.

For the surrounding progression, use research and buildings. If the settlement cannot afford the next objective, use workers and resources rather than changing several policies at once.
