Check the exact Fortnite component on Epic Games Public Status before reinstalling or changing network settings.
Open Epic Games Public Status and expand Fortnite before changing anything on your device. Check the component that matches the symptom: Login, Game Services, Matchmaking, Parties/Friends/Messaging, Voice Chat, Stats and Leaderboards, or Item Shop.
Match the symptom to the component
| What fails | Component to check first |
|---|---|
| Account cannot enter Fortnite | Login |
| Queue starts but no match forms | Matchmaking |
| Friends are missing or invites fail | Parties, Friends, and Messaging |
| Teammates cannot hear each other | Voice Chat |
| Career or leaderboard data is missing | Stats and Leaderboards |
| Purchases or shop display fail | Item Shop |
| Several unrelated actions fail | Game Services |
A green Login row does not clear Matchmaking, and a green Matchmaking row does not clear Voice Chat. This distinction prevents the common mistake of reinstalling a working client during a service incident.
If Epic reports an incident
Read the incident detail and affected components. Wait for Epic's next update if the failing feature is listed. Avoid repeated password resets, unlinking console accounts, clearing saves or reinstalling the full game while the service itself is degraded; those actions create new variables without fixing the outage.
The status page includes incident history and RSS/Atom feeds. Those are the official records for service changes. Social posts and crowd-sourced outage charts may show player impact sooner, but they do not replace Epic's component state.
If every relevant component is operational
Confirm that your console network or Epic Games Launcher is online, then restart Fortnite once. Test another online Epic feature if available. A failure isolated to voice chat belongs in the voice chat troubleshooting page; a PC that cannot launch the game should first be compared with the official system requirements.
If the same error persists, keep the exact error code and platform name when contacting Epic Support. “Fortnite is down” is less useful than “Windows login succeeds, but matchmaking returns this code while Epic reports Matchmaking operational.”

QUICK ANSWERS
Questions players ask next
Is Fortnite down right now?
Check Epic Games Public Status for the live answer. Read the Fortnite component list rather than only the page-wide banner because login, matchmaking, parties, voice chat, stats and the item shop can have different states.
Why can I log in but not join a match?
Login and matchmaking are separate status components. If login is operational but matchmaking is degraded, reinstalling the game will not repair Epic's service.
Does an all-systems-operational banner prove my connection is fine?
No. It means Epic is not reporting a service-wide incident. Your account, platform network, local connection, game files or region can still be the failing branch.
