AT A GLANCE

Hire staff after you can name the job your restaurant cannot keep up with. Current official updates identify front-of-house, restocking, assembly, pizza, and fryer roles, while v1.007 improves pathing and explains blocked tasks.

Pizza House Simulator uses hired NPC staff as a separate system from its six-player co-op. Current official updates name Waiter, Busser, Porter, Assembler, Pizza Chef, Fryer or Fry Cook, and cleaning staff. Hire for a job that is already delaying orders; a worker with no clear station or route can add congestion without fixing the rush.

Patch v1.007 is the current staff baseline for this page. It improves Waiter and Busser pathing, fixes several Pizza Chef, Porter, and Waiter workflows, stops Waiters from repeatedly picking up undeliverable trays, and makes blocked workers explain why they cannot finish a task.

Staff roles named by the developer

RoleVerified area of workChoose it when…
WaiterReady-to-serve trays and table deliveryfinished food is waiting while customers remain unserved
BusserFront-of-house table flowused tables and dining-room turnover are delaying new customers
PorterIngredient movement and stockingthe kitchen stops because stations run out while supplies exist elsewhere
AssemblerPizza assembly workflowprepared ingredients and ovens are available, but orders are not being assembled fast enough
Pizza ChefPizza productionpizza preparation itself is the repeated kitchen bottleneck
Fryer / Fry CookFries, onion rings, chicken tenders, and the fryer lineside orders are open and the fryer keeps pulling another worker away
Cleaning staffFloors, trash, and restaurant upkeepdirt or waste is interrupting the production route

The “choose it when” column translates each published role into a bottleneck decision; it is not an official ranking. Live role cards and task descriptions override this table if a later update changes assignments.

Waiter setup and ready trays

Official v1.006 notes add a serving-tray tutorial when a staff member is assigned as a Waiter. That is the cleanest point to learn the handoff:

  1. Assign the Waiter through the current staff interface.
  2. Follow the serving-tray tutorial that appears for the role.
  3. Make sure the receipt sits correctly on the tray.
  4. Confirm the tray reaches the Ready to Serve state before expecting pickup.
  5. Keep a walkable route between the handoff point and dining tables.

Version 1.006 fixed receipts that could prevent a tray from being marked ready when they were slightly out of position. It also fixed the ready color appearing late for other co-op players. Version 1.007 then made ready trays visible to every player, not only the host.

If a Waiter keeps lifting and dropping the same tray, update the game before redesigning the restaurant. V1.007 specifically fixes that loop for undeliverable trays.

When a worker says the task is blocked

Version 1.007 adds a reason when staff are stuck or unable to complete a task. Read that explanation first. Then check the physical route and the state of the destination:

  • Is another worker or movable object blocking the path?
  • Is the station broken, empty, full, or waiting for a prerequisite?
  • Is the tray actually marked ready?
  • Is the required ingredient in a reachable shelf?
  • Does the employee have a valid assigned role for that task?

Do not respond by firing every worker or rebuilding the entire restaurant. Clear one route or task state, then watch whether the same explanation disappears.

Porter and restocking performance

Porters handle ingredient movement. V1.006 reduced stuttering while Porters stock ingredients, and v1.007 reduced additional staff-spawn and first-action stutters. If stocking works but creates a short hitch, confirm the current version before assuming the restaurant layout is broken.

A Porter is most useful when ingredients exist but production staff repeatedly leave their stations to fetch them. If the restaurant is simply out of stock, hiring another Porter does not create supplies.

Fryer staff and the expanded kitchen

The launch systems post introduced fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, breading trays, and cup holders. V1.006 added a complete French Fries tutorial and a separate breading tutorial when Onion Rings enter the menu. Assign fryer staff after those menu items exist; before that point, the role does not address an active order type.

The patch also restored missing breading-tray shelves on affected saves and fixed unreachable cups on the fryer shelf. If the workstation itself is incomplete, update and reload before judging the employee.

Hiring traits, rarity, and breaks

The developer says candidates have rarities and traits, and staff take breaks and talk while working. That establishes real hiring differences, but the official material does not publish a complete trait list, wage table, hidden multiplier, or best rarity order.

Read the live candidate card against the job you need. A role match matters more than an unexplained tier label. Keep enough operating cash for ingredients and repairs; hiring is not useful if payroll leaves the kitchen unable to open.

Patch v1.005 also fixed a hiring quest that could count one employee twice. A “Hire 1 Staff Member” objective should now advance by one hire, not two.

Staff versus co-op players

NPC staff do not occupy the same contract as human co-op roles. A co-op player can change jobs instantly, call out a blocked order, or repair a machine while moving between stations. Staff follow assigned work and pathing rules.

Use co-op role planning for human players. Use this page for hired workers. If the restaurant is still in its first shifts, complete the beginner workflow before adding several employees at once.

QUICK ANSWERS

Questions players ask next

What staff roles are in Pizza House Simulator?

Official posts and patches name Waiter, Busser, Porter, Assembler, Fryer or Fry Cook, Pizza Chef, and cleaning staff. Some names appear in different updates because the staff system expanded after launch.

What does the Assembler do?

The official pre-launch post lists Assembler as an assignable staff role. Its practical job is part of the kitchen assembly flow, but the developer has not published a complete task or stat table, so follow the live role card for the current assignment.

Why is my Waiter stuck or dropping trays?

Update to at least v1.007. That patch improved Waiter and Busser pathing, fixed Waiters repeatedly handling undeliverable trays, and added explanations when staff are stuck or cannot complete a task.

Why did one hire count twice for a quest?

That was fixed in v1.005. Each new hire should now count once toward hiring objectives.
