Use Pocketpair's server package on 64-bit Windows or Linux, open UDP 8211, preserve saves, and configure the copied live settings file.

Prepare at least four CPU cores, 16 GB of RAM, fast SSD storage, a 64-bit Windows or Linux host, and UDP port 8211 with router forwarding. For a larger server, Pocketpair recommends more than 32 GB of memory.

Reproducible setup order

1. Choose Windows with Steam, Windows with SteamCMD, Linux with SteamCMD, or Pocketpair's official Docker image.
2. Download the dedicated server. SteamCMD uses app ID 2394010 and supports anonymous login.
3. Start the server once, confirm that it creates its working directories, then stop it before changing settings.
4. Copy DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini into the live platform-specific Pal/Saved/Config/.../PalWorldSettings.ini path.
5. Edit the copied live file. Changing only DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini does not apply the configuration.
6. Set an admin password, desired crossplay platforms, backups, player limits, and community-listing values as needed.
7. Forward the configured UDP listening port and allow it through the host firewall.
8. Restart, join with a test client, and confirm save creation before inviting the full group.

The current arguments page warns that in version 1.0 and later, leaving the older multithread flag set unset may improve performance. Do not copy an Early Access launch command blindly. Back up the save directory before upgrades or large configuration changes.
