AT A GLANCE

Melee restores ability resource, abilities can create execution openings, and executions temporarily strengthen melee; forms, powers, talents, and artifacts shape a build.

CONTROL Resonant combat is built around a three-step momentum loop: melee hits restore Combat Ability resource, abilities can stun enemies, and executions temporarily boost melee damage. The loop encourages close-range pressure, but Remedy also names tactical options such as Mold Turrets that attack independently and apply harmful status effects.

The Aberrant is the weapon framework

Dylan's Aberrant shifts between Primary and Secondary Forms and uses Combo Enders. Remedy says those forms change speed, range, and role. Steam gives two concrete examples: a two-handed hammer and dual blades. That establishes meaningful form choice, but not a launch tier list.

The important pre-release distinction is that the Aberrant is not one weapon dropped and replaced by a higher-numbered copy. Its forms are one pillar of the character build, alongside supernatural abilities and talents.

Four parts of a build

PartOfficial roleWhat is still unknown
Aberrant FormsChange melee speed, range, and roleFinal damage, frame data, and best pairings
Combat AbilitiesEarned from major Resonant bossesFull list and every branch outcome
TalentsStrengthen synergy between abilities and meleeFinal tree costs and optimal route
ArtifactsPassive modifiers with benefits, conditions, or trade-offsFull pool, rolls, and strongest combinations

Build editing happens in the Gap, a space linked to Dylan's mind. On PS5, Remedy says it can be entered with D-pad Down. Defeating major Resonant bosses grants supernatural abilities, and some bosses offer branching choices. Not every option can be unlocked in one first playthrough.

World structure affects combat planning

Manhattan is divided into handcrafted zones. Remedy explicitly rejects a grind-heavy map-clearing design. Dylan's Journey is the main campaign, while World Quests are self-contained stories; combat encounters, environmental challenges, secrets, and optional activities are woven into those zones.

That means a useful post-launch build guide will need more than a list of high numbers. It should state the boss abilities chosen, Aberrant forms, talent nodes, artifacts, story point, difficulty, and target encounter. Until those variables can be tested, the official system map above is more reliable than a pre-release “strongest build.”

QUICK ANSWERS

Questions players ask next

What is the Aberrant in CONTROL Resonant?

It is Dylan's transforming melee weapon. Remedy describes Primary and Secondary Forms plus Combo Enders that change speed, range, and combat role.

What is the best CONTROL Resonant build?

No retail build exists yet, and Remedy says not everything unlocks in one playthrough. A reliable best-build claim needs final values, enemy behavior, and repeatable testing after release.
