FIRST CHECK

Official stores support one-versus-one local and online play; they do not document cross-platform matchmaking, cross-progression, four-player modes, or cooperative story play.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters supports two-player local and online head-to-head matches. PlayStation lists one to two local players and up to two online players. Xbox describes local and online multiplayer as “2–2,” and Steam identifies both Online PvP and Shared/Split Screen PvP.

What each store confirms

FeatureCurrent official evidence
Single-playerConfirmed
Local head-to-headTwo total players
Online head-to-headTwo total players
Steam shared/split screenConfirmed for PvP
Four-player matchesNot listed
Story co-opNot listed
CrossplayNot documented
Cross-progressionNot documented

“2–2” on Xbox is storefront shorthand for two-player local and two-player online capability, not two teams of two human players. The PlayStation limit of two online players confirms the one-versus-one interpretation.

Console subscriptions

Online play on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus. Xbox add-on pages state that console online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. Those subscriptions enable console multiplayer; they do not mean the game is included in the Game Pass catalog.

Nintendo's online requirements should be checked on the live Switch product before purchase. A general Nintendo Switch Online requirement does not establish cross-platform play with PS5, Xbox, or Steam.

Crossplay is unconfirmed, not automatically absent

Current Google US suggestions ask directly about crossplay, but none of the checked Bandai Namco or platform pages uses a cross-network or cross-platform multiplayer capability label. Steam lists online PvP; Xbox lists online multiplayer; PlayStation lists online players. Separate platform support is not proof that those networks connect to one another.

Until Bandai Namco publishes a crossplay matrix or the released game exposes a verified cross-network invite flow, the reliable answer is not documented. The same applies to cross-save and cross-progression.

What “multiplayer” does not promise

The game includes multiple story and editing modes, but the official mode description separates them from Regular Match. No source here supports a two-player NEW STARS campaign, cooperative World Youth progression, shared custom-player story, or four-controller tournament bracket.

For the single-player route breakdown, open story modes and Regular Match. This page will be updated if Bandai Namco publishes a formal crossplay or co-op statement.
